American Airlines is giving Midwesterners a new way to escape the winter blahs.

Beginning October 26, 2025, American Airlines will be offering flights from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) to Honolulu (HNL) on a Boeing 787-8. Flights to Honolulu will be on the airlines’ newer and larger aircraft, which will enable American to offer passengers more premium seating options for every flight.

The addition of Honolulu (HNL) is part of the airline’s big plans for transforming how they do business at O’Hare this year, with the addition of nine total new destinations that will benefit from their larger aircraft and premium cabin. Compared to last summer, the airline will have more than 40 percent additional premium seats from O'Hare.

“O’Hare has always been a vital hub for American, connecting the Midwest to our global network and bringing travelers from across the world to Chicago for business and pleasure,” said Ben Humphrey, American’s Vice President of ORD Operations in a statement. “Strengthening our network is a promise to our customers that we’ll continue to provide exceptional service to the places they want to go.”

Other new American international destinations include a non-stop to Naples, Italy (NAP) beginning on May 6, Madrid, Spain starting on March 30, and Halifax, Canada (YHZ) on June 21. And for those that aren’t looking for beach vacations, the new routes are also focusing on outdoor adventure destinations this year, like Spokane, Washington (GEG), Bismarck, North Dakota (BIS), Boise, Idaho (BOI), and Colorado Springs (COS) beginning on June 5, and Hyannis, Massachusetts (HYA) beginning June 21. American provides direct flights to Cape Cod through HYA. They are also increasing existing service to Florida.
