The days are getting shorter and the nights cooler, marking the beginning of the “winter season” for airlines. By a quirk of the industry calendar, airlines’ official winter schedules begin at the end of October and run through March. And new schedules mean new routes.
In Travel + Leisure’s latest highlights of the most exciting new routes, major carriers are kicking off flights to some of the world’s most sought-after destinations. This includes new non-stops to Amsterdam’s famed canals as well as Marrakech’s bustling medina.
Pack your bags, it’s time to fly.
American Flies South for the Winter
American lands in Brisbane with five weekly flights from its mega Dallas-Fort Worth hub beginning October 26. The 16.5-hour flight that departs Dallas at 10 p.m. will take travelers to the capital of Queensland, and offer a new connection to American’s partner Qantas Airways. Economy fares from Dallas range from $1,361 to $1,491 one way during the first few weeks of service.
The Oneworld alliance carrier is also adding a new option to Rio de Janeiro’s iconic beaches. On the same day Brisbane flights begin, American will launch a daily flight to the Brazilian city from Dallas. Economy tickets for the roughly 10-hour flight range from $598 to $738 one way during the first week of service. Flights depart Dallas at 8:05 p.m. local time.
