Ski season is just around the corner, and while there are amazing mountains all around the world, some are emerging as more popular with travelers than others.
California’s Big Bear Lake topped the list as the most popular ski destination for this year, according to data from Airbnb’s 2024 Winter Release shared with Travel + Leisure on Wednesday. The southern California town features two major ski resorts: Snow Summit and Bear Mountain.
That was followed by Breckenridge in Colorado, Canada’s Whistler, Tromsø in Norway, and Chamonix-Mont-Blanc in France. California’s Mammoth Lakes, which features both June Mountain and Mammoth Mountain, took the No. 6 spot on the list of the 10 top ski resorts this year, while Park City came in at No. 7, and Colorado’s Steamboat Springs came in at No. 8.
Beyond skiing, travelers In the United States are searching for winter trips to Tokyo, Osaka, and Aruba, while domestic trips to Indianapolis are proving to be a popular option.
The trending winter destinations come as Airbnb introduced a host of updates to make booking easier, including helping travelers pick where they want to go with suggested destinations based on their search and booking history. Travelers will also benefit from search tips (think recommending extending a trip to take advantage of a discount from a host), as well as redesigned search filters based on their history and current search parameters.
"We're making it even easier to book travel on Airbnb,” Tara Bunch, the global head of operations at Airbnb, told T+L. “Through updates like suggested destinations and personalized listing highlights, we are personalizing our app, bringing a guest's unique travel needs to the forefront of their search.”
Airbnb is also streamlining checkout for returning customers, which the company said includes “key details at a glance,” as well as making it easier for new customers to navigate the app with a new welcome tour.
This isn’t the first update Airbnb has added. This spring, the company introduced a new Icons category with amazing stays and experiences around the world. And last year, Airbnb launched a redesigned ratings page to include features like review sorting.
